A Dying Prayer

My body fails me

I lie here in bed

A life-long memory

Plays in my head

Reliving the days

That made up my life

The choices I made

My kids and my wife

Thoughts run together

But this I recall

For worse of for better

They were here for it all

I did not have much

But my love was true

I love them so much

And they love me too

Thanks for this life

I have been blessed

Comfort my wife

As I lay me down to rest

Powerful Drug

I have an addiction. It’s the first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning. The high is short lived. Before I know it, I am reaching for another hit.

It’s starting to affect my work, as I often show up late and disheveled. I’m tired throughout the day.

My wife had asked me to stop, and I told her I had. But she caught me this morning. I tried to deny it. Then I tried excuse it.

She is right. The snooze button is a powerful drug. I am addicted to the Snooze button. I will try to stop hitting it, but the struggle is real.

Born In His Image

Born in His image but inherently stained

Blemishes of original sin has remained

Unable to break free for we are bound

By our transgressions lest a savior be found

Slave to our sin with no power at all

Each day in the darkness of the fall

Dead as corpse washed up in a flood

Brought to life by the savoir’s blood

Restored to God, and forgiven of sin

His death on the cross, death did not win

Broken free of the chains that bound

No longer condemned, but glorybound

The veil of separation was torn

Talking to God, I have been reborn

I have a new master, I serve the Lord

I am being refined by His holy word

Shaped like clay in His hands

Praying for wisdom to understand

A sacrifice for you and for me

Those with eyes to see will see

The Next “Me Too”

The Beast seeks out his prey

Prowls in the middle of day

Seductive eyes, it successfully tries

To lure you from your way

All of your well made plans

Sin destroys because it can

Throughout the nation, no discrimination

A fate common to man

All of the things that you do

Will one day come into view

Trembling afraid, of the price to be paid

When the next voice says “Me too”

Inside There is a Hunger

Inside there is a hunger

Within me there is a drive

Though I fall, I will recover

I guess I was built to survive

Bombs explode around me

Falling down from the sky

I feel like I have been bitten

By a snake with venomous lies

My faith will not be broken

I refuse to lay down and die

I stand on the truth that was spoken

Truth that defeats every lie

Stop the noise!

Stop the noise! Stop it now.

Got to find my head somehow

So much talking. Yelling.

What is it? No telling.

TV is too loud for me

Kids, they will not let me be

The multiple conversations

Fullblown overstimulation

Where is my reality

Close my eyes so to see

Kill the noise with my thoughts

I find the peace that I sought

I retreat from the battle line

To write these words of mine

Gardens of Taliwa

In the gardens of Taliwa

In my mind I still see ya

We laugh and drink tequila

Memories take me back

To the gardens of Taliwa

With you, mi amiga

Doing anything to please ya

My lady in black

Dark and tainted heart

I knew from the start

Our paths would part

We had but a season

Tortured my soul

Knowing you would go

Winds of change did blow

You did not give a reason

In the gardens of Taliwa

In my mind I still see ya

We laugh and drink tequila

Memories take me back

To the gardens of Taliwa

With you, mi amiga

Doing anything to please ya

My lady in black

The sun is on the rise

It’s a beautiful sky

I think of that July

But only for a moment

We were eye to eye

Whispering lies

Until our goodbye

I wonder where you went

In the gardens of Taliwa

In my mind I still see ya

We laugh and drink tequila

Memories take me back

To the gardens of Taliwa

With you, mi amiga

Doing anything to please ya

My lady in black

Death is in the air

The stench of death is in the air

Smells of sorrow and despair

Does anybody care?

You sit and you stare

At the broken humanity

Lying on the bloody street

You can’t believe it is real

You don’t know how to feel

Can’t process the tragedy

How could this come to be

You ask and wonder why

Too distraught to even cry

You still smell death in the air

Smells like sorrow and despair

Does anybody care

You sit and you stare

Images that fill your head

Of the wounded and the dead

So vivid and so real

You can’t share how you feel

Loved ones wonder why

There is a tear in your eye

Show Me The Way

Tell me the steps to take

Please correct each mistake

Lord show me the way

I ask for wisdom today

Right now lord, I feel lost

I know the blood paid the cost

Save me from my own demise

Help me to recognize

The blessings I don’t see

That are right in front of me

Lord, I know you are the Way

And need you more everyday
